Using Landfill Gas for Energy Production<\/h2>\n

Landfill gas is produced during the anaerobic decomposition of organic materials in landfills. Its composition can vary over time. During the stable methane phase, it can contain approximately 35 to 60 percent methane (CH4<\/sub>) and 20 to 45 percent carbon dioxide (CO2<\/sub>), although the methane content may decrease as the landfill ages. During gas treatment, organosilicon compounds can be reduced to adapt the gas quality to the requirements of gas engine operation. Captured landfill gas can be used in suitable gas engines to generate electricity and heat. If methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere is utilized for energy, its direct release can be reduced. Methane is a greenhouse gas with a greater climate impact than carbon dioxide.<\/p>\n

Engine Components Optimized for Landfill Gas<\/h2>\n

To utilize landfill gas or other gases that have a high CO2<\/sub> content, MWM uses pistons with a modified compression ratio. In addition, MWM prechamber spark plugs are used, which are optimized for the requirements of gas engine operation.<\/p>\n
