Higher Efficiency Through Continuous Research and Development

MWM is continuously advancing the development of gas engines and power generators. Key areas of focus in its research and development work include power density, efficiency, emissions performance, and the maintenance and operational characteristics of the engines.

In this process, computational and simulation methods are combined with test bench tests to specifically refine engine components and combustion processes.

In-House Computational Tools for Engine Development

MWM uses its own computational tools to analyze the behavior of engine components and refine their design. Findings regarding the long-term behavior of the components are incorporated into the development and tuning of the components and can be taken into account, for example, when determining maintenance intervals.

Simulations Support the Development of Combustion Processes

Developments ranging from gas dynamics to the combustion process are investigated using computer simulations and subsequently verified on the test bench. The insights gained from this process are incorporated into the further development of the simulation models and engines.

For more than 20 years, MWM has been refining chamber spark plugs and the associated combustion concepts. The goal is to specifically optimize combustion processes and further improve the efficiency of gas engines.

Test Benches for Different Gas Qualities

Test benches equipped with comprehensive measurement technology are available for the various model series and cylinder configurations. There, MWM gas engines and power generators can be operated and tested using both natural gas from the gas grid and synthetically blended gases.

The synthetically produced gas mixtures enable testing with different methane numbers as well as with gas compositions that correspond, for example, to biogas, landfill gas, or mine gas. This allows the gas engines to be tuned to different gas qualities as early as the development and testing phases. This can reduce the amount of adjustment required during subsequent commissioning.

On additional test benches, MWM also conducts testing of mechanical components and flow studies.
