- Hydrogen admixture helps to comply with laws and regulations implemented for the purpose of reducing greenhouse emissions, such as the 44th Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BImSchV) and renewable energies laws.
- New engines of the TCG 3016, TCG 3020, and TCG 2032 series are designed for natural gas operation with a hydrogen admixture of 25Â vol%.
- With the MWM retrofit 25H2-Kits, which comes in two editions, existing plants with TCG 3016, TCG 3020, TCG 2032, and TCG 2032B gas engines can quickly and easily be converted for natural gas operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 20Â vol% or up to 25Â vol%.
- Blending hydrogen reduces the proportion of natural gas used. With a hydrogen blend of 25% by volume, direct CO2 emissions from combustion can be reduced compared to operation with pure natural gas, depending on the calculation method used and the operating conditions.

The European Union intends to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Plant operators need to furnish evidence of their compliance with laws and regulations imposing strict emission limits. If hydrogen is produced using renewable energy, blending it into the fuel mixture can reduce the proportion of fossil natural gas in the mixture. MWM gas engines are ready for operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 10 vol% without any modifications.
Within the scope of its expanded product offering in the field of hydrogen, MWM now offers TCG 3016, TCG 3020, TCG 2032, and TCG 2032B gas engines suitable for permanent operation, base load supply, and peak load operation with natural gas with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol%.
New engines of the series support these hydrogen admixtures by design and are ready to use. For existing plants, MWM offers the retrofit 25H2-Kit for upgrading TCG 3016, TCG 3020, and TCG 2032 gas engines for hydrogen admixtures of up to 25 vol%.

With the MWM 25H2-Kit for retrofitting gas engines, the engine’s gas train is replaced with a gas train that supports the use of hydrogen. Gas trains control the flow of gas through the engine. Before the gas enters the combustion chamber, it passes the gas train. There, the gas is made available with a certain pressure and temperature. An optimum gas train plays a significant role, as it contributes to the performance of the gas engine and extends its useful life.

The MWM gas engines of the TCG 3016 series are offered in an output range from 400 kWel to 1,000 kWel. The series stands out with high electrical efficiencies of up to 43 percent and low gas consumption. TCG 3016 gas engines support the flexible use of various gas types. Customers who order new engines of the TCG 3016 series get a unit that is ready to use with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol%. For plant operators who would like to convert their existing MWM gas engines of the TCG 3016 series for operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 20 vol% or up to 25 vol%, MWM offers the retrofit 25H2-Kits in two variants.

- H2-capable gas trains (zero pressure and inlet pressure)
- Inlet manifold (cylinder with individual 0.7 mm flame arresters)
- Wastegate (needed for V08 and V12)
- Software: TPEM 1.8.2 (optimized ignition parameters)
- Turbocharger (optional nozzle ring replacement)
One flame arrester per cylinder, which was custom-designed for use with hydrogen admixtures to ensure safe operation of the gas engine.
