Mannheim, November 13, 2025
MWM has further expanded its lineup of gas engines with the highly efficient MWM TCG 4170 V20 gas engine. The TCG 4170 V20 offers an electrical efficiency of up to 46 percent as well as high flexibility and robustness in demanding environments.
The MWM TCG 4170 V20: Made to Perform
With the MWM TCG 4170 V20 R, operators of combined heat and power (CHP) plants and cogeneration power plants can achieve their energy goals even faster and more cost-effectively. Thanks to its high energy efficiency and fuel flexibility, the generator set is ideal for grid-parallel or island-mode operation.
The engine with an electrical power range of 1,300 to 2,500 kW (up to 2,536 kW with natural gas) and an electrical efficiency of up to 46 percent sets new standards in terms of electrical efficiency. The overall efficiency of the TCG 4170 V20 is 89.1 percent or even up to 89.6 percent when the engine coolant temperature is 88 °C. The generator set is available as 50-Hz variant (60-Hz variant will be available from 2026).

The MWM TCG 4170 V20 R offers excellent electrical efficiency of up to 46 percent. Thanks to its high robustness and flexibility, it is suitable for distributed energy generation in numerous fields of application and segments.
Maximum Performance for Different Industries, Companies, and Locations
With its fast ramp-up and maximum load step performance of 60 percent, the TCG 4170 V20 delivers full power in under five minutes. This makes the generator set ideal for deployment e.g. in the petrochemicals industry, refineries, mining, production facilities, and data centers, where short response times are vital.
Thanks to its flexible operation, the generator set is suitable for various industrial applications and numerous forms of energy generation, including independent power producers (IPPs), critical infrastructure, and utilities.
Thanks to the robustness of the TCG 4170 V20, operation is possible with intake air temperatures of up to 45 °C and at altitudes of up to 700 m—always at full power and with high reliability. This makes the engine a trustworthy partner for distributed energy generation even in hot climates. What is more, costs for cooling and ventilation systems can be saved.

Greater Comfort, High Efficiency, and Customer-Specific Configuration with TCS and VisionLink®
The CHP plant is controlled via the TCS control system. The system is available in various configurations and as a customized solution. MWM offers the digital application VisionLink® to give operators convenient and secure insight into their plant performance. With the help of VisionLink®, CHP plants can be monitored in real time from any location. Potential damage is detected at an early stage, preventing possible outages. The TCS control system and MWM VisionLink® are each equipped with multi-layer security controls and other safeguards against unauthorized access.
With the MWM TCG 4170 generator set, plant operators benefit from highly economical energy generation. The engine’s high robustness, flexibility, and electrical efficiency make it a smart choice for industries and companies that depend on reliable, high-performance heat and power production.
