MWM Service Tutorial Series “Do It the Smart Way”: Episode 9 Demonstrates the Chnaging of the UPF Filter

The MWM service tutorial video series “Do it the smart way” shows how to perform various maintenance tasks on MWM gas engines. The ninth episode of the series is presented by Kevin Kolbe, Technical Trainer at the Learning Center Service at MWM in Mannheim, Germany. In this episode, Kolbe—who had made his debut explaining the emission measurement in episode 8—demonstrates the changing of the UPF filter, an important maintenance measure for the crankcase ventilation.

Servicing the Crankcase Ventilation, Replacing the UPF Filter

The video zooms in on the correct replacement of the UPF filter (universal particulate filter), which filters the oil mist, thereby playing a key role in ensuring compliance with emission standards. Step by step, Kevin Kolbe shows how to safely and professionally remove the old filter and insert a new one. Additionally, Kevin explains the function of the crankcase ventilation, which is responsible for extracting so-called blowby gases from the crankcase and feeding them back into the combustion process. Apart from contributing to the efficiency of the generator set, this reduces the risk of unwanted deflagrations inside the engine.
