1,000 Successfully Delivered MWM TCG 2032 Gas Engines for Decentralized Energy Generation
Mannheim, September 3, 2025
The sale of the 1,000ᵗʰ TCG 2032 generator set highlights the success of the largest MWM series. From reliable energy generation for power and district heating supply in cities to the use in industrial companies and greenhouses, the TCG 2032 impresses plant operators worldwide with its high flexibility and performance.
Reliable, Robust, Efficient Energy Solution for IPPs
With an output range of 3,000 to 4,500 kW, the TCG 2032 gas engine is a perfect choice for large IPP projects that depend on safe, highly efficient energy generation. Following the ongoing further development of the engine, a new version of the TCG 2032 with improved efficiency was introduced to the market in 2012. MWM proudly looks back on the 1,000 energy projects it has successfully implemented with the TCG 2032 series.
Municipal energy suppliers, large manufacturing and industrial companies, and greenhouses in particular benefit from the high operational reliability and robust design of the MWM TCG 2032. The engine is suitable for all types of gas, including natural gas, mine gas, biogas, and hydrogen admixtures of up to 25 vol%. The relatively low operating costs represents a unique advantage for power producers looking for a solution with low TCO.
TCG 2032B V16 with Fast Ramp-up Option
The TCG 2032B V16 boasts a very special feature: the fast ramp-up option. In a flexible manner, this option allows the operator to switch between normal and fast engine ramp-up. The fast ramp-up option enables CHP plants to be started up quickly. The process takes less than five minutes from the ramp-up request to 100 percent load on the network. Due to the fluctuating capacities of renewable energies, this fast ramp-up option is becoming increasingly important. The fast ramp-up option enables operators to quickly call off energy in order to respond to peak grid loads. Therefore, the technology represents a key advantage especially for projects with a tight schedule as well as the refinery and petrochemical industry.
Use in Various Segments and Applications around the Globe
The MWM TCG 2032 series is in operation in distributed energy supply projects all over the world. The engine is suitable for industrial applications, IPPs, the waste-to-energy industry, as well as small and large CHP plants.
For example, Stadtwerke Duisburg AG uses seven TCG 2032B V16 gas engines to produce heat and power for the city’s energy and district heating supply. In recognition of its future-oriented concept, “Energie & Management” magazine designated the plant “cogeneration power plant of the month” in 2023.
In Spain, 14 TCG 2032 V16 engines have been generating clean energy for the utility provider Iberdrola since 2009. The generator sets reliably supply the liquid manure processing facilities of five power plants with electricity.
An extraordinary power plant project with MWM TCG 2032 gas engines can be found at Lake Kivu in Rwanda. In 2024, one of Rwanda’s largest power plants with 19 powerful TCG 2032B V16 gas engines was commissioned on the shores of the lake. The 76-MW power plant uses the methane stored in Lake Kivu, which has a surface area of about 2,400 km², to supply the landlocked country with eco-friendly energy.
A Long Trip: 15 TCG 2032 Engines Travel from Germany to Bangladesh
Within just three months, 15 MWM TCG 2032 V16 gas engines were delivered to the independent power producer Precision Energy in Bangladesh within the scope of an ambitious logistics project. The MWM engines produce a constant total output of 60 MW, all of which is fed into the public grid. The film “60 MW Around the World” on the MWM YouTube channel “mwmgenset” provides a look behind the scenes of this special power plant project.
